Why Now & Why You?

Updated: Oct 9, 2023

In 2015, we got our first mini pig, Hamlet.

We have always loved animals and of course have taken in many over the years, but taking in Hamlet was a life changing event. We saw the personality he had and that he was very much like a dog, but a bit sassier and smarter than most dogs that we had had over the years, lol. With this realization, we found an increased interest in learning more about farm animals and interacting more with farm rescues/ sanctuaries and inevitability started supporting these organizations.

In our area there are very few farm rescues/ sanctuaries and we soon discovered that there was a local problem growing as we started hearing about livestock in need of rescue. We took in animals as we could and fostered out others that had been picked up by animal shelters and were scheduled to be euthanized. We continued to support this way for several years.

In 2018, we excitedly registered as a non-profit, but still managed the work mostly independently and self-funded.

Come 2019, we noticed many stray domestic animals in the area. Obviously our love for animals extended beyond farm animals and so we took on an endeavor to support strays in getting them back to their homes and in some instances when there wasn’t a home for some to return to, we started supporting in orchestrating pet adoptions.

Why are you hearing from us now?

Because…more animals need help.

In 2023, a big shift in animals needing support became more apparent; in the last 10 months we started to see an intense need for support with domestic animals. Euthanasia rates were increasing and animal dumping became common place. We knew we needed a more efficient way to move animals into new homes and so we became a PetSmart Charities Partner.

In collaboration with PetSmart, we have been doing monthly adoption events to home these fur babies as quickly as possible. In fact, PetSmart nationally noticed the growing need as well, due to the increased statistics regarding euthanasia cases and changed their policies after 29 years to allow adoptions for animals who were not spayed/neutered (unfortunately does not apply to California); due to the shortage in veterinarians & veterinary services. While this is great news, there are still many stipulations to getting an animal into an event and into a new home.

Why you?

Because…we need your help.

Many rescues have combatted this growing problem as well as ours, but with us within our rescue doing this alone can only have a minimal impact. We know it is necessary to expand our efforts and gain more support from other animal lovers in the community who also want to see the best for animals and get them into furever homes where they can receive the love and care they deserve.

Animals love unconditionally, but can’t advocate for themselves; we want to help in being their voice and ensure that we let you know that they need everyone’s help. Please join in the cause by supporting our rescue. There are many ways to support: you can like, follow, share on social media, donate, join patreon, volunteer, foster, or adopt. You don’t have to be local to help.

Thank you from all of us here at Hamlet’s House & Pet Rescue, we welcome and appreciate you and we know so many animals do too!
