With the severe increase in dogs being dumped in the desert these poor animals from puppy litters, to bonded partners, to the lone wolf are living in the hot desert with very little hope of finding homes. Why is dumping occurring? There are many various reasons that this situation occurs. Sometimes it is a desperate family losing their home, animal control refusing to take animals, the inability for the dog to be taken in by rescues that are full or the lack of being able to participate in adoption events due to not being spayed/ neutered and vaccinated. Nonetheless, these dogs end up in the desert and experience life threatening circumstances. They are left with out an ability to obtain food, water, and shelter. Their feet burn on the hot ground leaving sores on the pads of their feet, they become infested with fleas and ticks and they are exposed to the roadways that show them no mercy. Many dogs lose their very lives daily as a result of the exposure to the elements. Pictured here is a 2-3 month old puppy, one of these poor babies who was left out in the desert with no hope. She was tick infested and had labored breathing. Upon rescue, she was taken to the vet and determined to be tick infested requiring the removal of approx. 650 ticks, fluids to hydrate her, medication and supplements to stabilize her from the excessive loss of blood. Without this treatment she would have died and had animal control taken her she would have been euthanized. Today, she is recovering, active, playful, loving and truly a miracle; hence her new name: Miracle.
